Southport Mobility Shop

Located on the seaside cost of Southport we have been supplying mobility and care products locally for the past 5 years, prior to that our mobility shop was located in Formby but due to expansion we had to move our offices to larger premises.
Our main business has always been to supply nursing and care homes throughout the North West as a one stop deliver, allowing homes to purchase medical aids, consumables, paper etc from one company rather than several businesses.

By working like this we were then able to buy stock in larger amounts and request competitive rates from our suppliers and this benefits our customers and allows us to stay as competitive as possible.
Our Southport showroom boasts a great selection of medical related products and a range of daily living aids

Bmsupplies.co.uk Web-store expands

Anyone who has used our website to shop for mobility or incontinence products will notice a slight change to our website; this is because we've tried to simplify the way people shop on our site by separating our range into different categories.

This will mean we will have a number of sites that relate to our product range, at the moment we have our incontinence site, our hospital bed site and our Pressure relief site up and running but we hope to open this out to have a site for hoists, one for work wear and many more.

We are hoping that this will not only allow the shopper to find what they are looking for easier, it will also allow us to keep all information relating to those products together a lot easier.
So please feel free to have a look around www.bmsupplies.co.uk today and let us know what you think.

Mobility and Care Equipment Showcase at Naidex

It’s almost that time again when we look forward to viewing new products and innovation in the world of mobility and nursing at this year’s Naidex show.
The show itself is hosted at Birmingham’s NEC conference centre and showcases everything
from the very latest rehabilitation equipment and moving and handling products to seminars on improving levels of care.
The show always gathers a buzz from healthcare professionals and suppliers such as
ourselves and I personally am looking forward to viewing the new product awards and showcase as it gives us a chance to see what sort of technologies will be available in the future for Nursing homes and care centres.
One product I’m particularly excited about seeing is the terrainhopper, this r
ange of mobility scooter allows less abled children and adults to
experience the great outdoors on an all terrain 4x4 mobility scooter. The controls are water resistant and there are a number of options for the vechale including 4 wheel drive, Sensitivity adjustment on the controls and much more.

Hospec Neutral Cleaning

Hospec Washing up Liquid,
A raised awareness about infection control and just good old fashioned cleanliness has meant that specialist Janitorial products are more popular than ever.
Hospec is generally used as a foamless washing up liquid to sterilising tools and dental instruments although it can be used to replace a number of janitorial products in the home.
The neutral PH of the liquid insures that it doesn’t damage or tarnish stainless steel and works byu removing the dead bacteria from any surface.

  • Cleaning of ward pantry equipment.
  • Cleaning of dental instrument boxes and equipment.
  • Manual cleaning of reusable dental instruments.
  • Hand dishwashing.
HOW TO USE:

Patient Hoist Regulations, Loler & Inservice Inspections

We have had quite a few enquiries regarding L.O.L.E.R recently; mainly customers are concerned about what is covered and what isn’t covered under L.O.L.ER regulations but more importantly how to ensure their home is following these regulations.

Before I start I'm sure one or two of you may be asking what is L.O.L.E.R?, this actually stands for the lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1998 R9 (3)(A), 9(3)(B) and relates to any form of lifting or handling equipment. In our case we deal a lot with equipment which are a staple part of everyday life in a nursing home, these are patient hoists, bath hoists, stand aids, slings and electric baths.

The biggest queries is that homes are unsure of whether it was OK to inspect hoists and slings without the need of an external company to do this, As you can imagine, we cant just give the OK without proper clarification so we felt it was necessary to get a clear understanding direct from the HSE, this would help us ensure that we could help our customers gain a better understanding of this.

We were able to ask one of the Field Operations Directorate at HSE ,Ms Christina Goddard, who was able give clear explanation of what is involved and noted one of the main misconceptions homes are having.

It seems that a lot of Homes are confusing a regular in-service inspection of equipment with a more thorough inspection known as a STE (Statutory Thorough Examination)

Statutory thorough examinations

These should normally be carried out by a person independent of the organisation and be carried out on a six monthly basis by independent of the person carrying out routine servicing of the equipment. This is to ensure that the person carrying out the STE can report defects and order equipment to be taken out of use without fear of retribution. However, it is not a legal requirement that the STE is carried out by an independent person.

If an STE is carried out by an employee of the company/establishment, or by an engineer who also services the equipment, then they must be able to demonstrate that the STE has been carried out as though the engineer is independent and that conflicts of interest have been dealt with. In reality this is very difficult to prove, and it is considered good practice for the STE to be carried out by an external company.

In service inspections

These are inspections that can be carried out by suitably trained persons in the company/establishment. This can be a suitably trained member of staff who would carry out the inspections, report defects and ensure records of the inspection are kept.

I hope this is able to put some minds at ease regarding L.O.L.E.R , however if you are in any doubt whether you are following correct procedures or you would like to take advantage of our very own L.O.L.E.R Inspection service please don’t hesitate to contact us on the details attached.
